The Original Safari Destination

Kigali

Kigali is the capital city of Rwanda. Located in the centre of the country across several hills and valleys. Kigali is connected with good road links to the rest of the country. Visitors to the bustling and colorful centre are in awe at how clean Kigali is. The cleanliness is a matter of pride across every community throughout the country.

Kigali is a relatively new city. It was founded as an administrative outpost in 1907, and became the capital of the country at independence in 1962. The city’s wide tree-lined boulevards and immaculate squares are safe to stroll. Guests are generally left to their own devices unless they need assistance, in which case they will be greeted with warm hospitality.

Kigali has a burgeoning art scene. In addition, a growing number of options to dine out and have a few drinks, many with charming panoramic views. The Kigali Cultural Village offers a dedicated space for local artisans and food vendors to exhibit and trade their goods. Kigali is developing rapidly, with new shopping malls, office buildings and, of course, the convention centre which lights up the night sky atop of one of the many hills.

1000 Hills Distillery

1000 Hills Distillery

East Africa’s first craft distillery, 1000 Hills Distillery, was founded in 2014 by two gentlemen with a love of fine whisky, stunning views and a strong sense of pride in working with local communities. One of the reasons they chose Rwanda in addition to the amazing resilience of the country is that they could source materials locally, thus supporting micro and small businesses. Since their beginning they have produced six unique Made in Rwanda, triple distilled liquors, a Coffee Liqueur, Vodka, Light Spiced Rum, London Dry Gin, Macadamia Nut Liqueur and Single Malt Whisky! In addition, they also produce a variety of liquor-infused coffee. Unlike most alcohol companies, social impact is at the heart of the company! They have teamed up with leading international development agencies in Rwanda which are offering technical training to small holder farmers so they can use the distillers’ residues to increase their crop and livestock production. The distillery also works closely with local government to use the Methanol by-product to make a low-cost mosquito repellent. The distillery’s goal is to try and help as many people as they can with what they have.
There is a choice from five different tours lasting from one and half hours to two hours.
