A Luxury Travel Experience & Ornithological Haven
Do you ever feel you need a break from your daily routine, away from all the daily noise of life? To breathe clean, fresh air, to be surrounded by nature? To just sit out and listen to the stillness, where life has slowed and every breath is a reminder that there is beauty in the world?
Lake Nakuru was always one of my favourite parks to visit – sometimes a day trip (only 3 hours drive from Nairobi), sometimes – (even better!) – to spend a night or two. Besides the great variety of birdlife, this is the one park you can always be sure of spotting rhinos, lions, leopards, Rothschild giraffe, herds of buffaloes and zebras and more. However, over the last few years, the lake has flooded considerably, making driving around the park very difficult, the wildlife moving to drier grounds and the flamingoes have all but disappeared. Despite that, Lake Nakuru National Park has a new property which has been getting rave reviews and I was very keen to pay a visit, which finally happened earlier this year! Driving into the park, it was a shock to see so much water, trees submerged, but what a joy to see the abundant birdlife, buffaloes, zebras and three rhinos!
Sometimes you need a moment to stop and realise where you are and what you are experiencing, and allow yourself to be completely in the moment.
Pana's Personal Account of her time at The Cliff
An easy drive from Nairobi and up to The Cliff in our safari-worthy vehicle. We had our temperatures taken at the gate, were greeted by the smiling Angie. Walking through the cool, beautiful reception and seeing the lake below lifted my heart. It was clear that two nights at The Cliff was not going to be enough! An intimate, exclusive, luxury camp set on the Cliff top overlooking Lake Nakuru. An amazing setting, blending effortlessly with the environment. Each of the 10 tents are strategically placed and where guests enjoy a 180 degree view. The most serene and tranquil environment to soak in the panoramic paradise. The tents are spacious, comfortable and modern. Whether lying on the bed, soaking in the bathtub (which I’ll do on my next visit!) or sitting on the private balcony, being lulled by the call of the fish eagle, the view of the lake is magical! The peace and quiet is overwhelming, it’s a most surreal experience. The early morning wake-up call for sunrise is definitely worth it! Both the sunrise and sunset are spectacular over the lake. Determined to enjoy the camp, I made good use of the Spa. I indulged in a couple of much-needed massages in a serene setting and relaxing on my deck, decompressing and absorbing the beauty. We enjoyed our post lunch coffee and pre-dinner drinks in the bar tent – a comfortable space filled with unique furniture with a beautiful view of the lake. The evenings did get cool but a fire was lit outside to sit around and indulge in conversation with other guests.
Why I love the Cliff . . .Friendly, gracious, attentive staff. A beautiful and serene setting. Incredibly varied and generous breakfast, lunch and dinner menus (a good reason to work out at the camp’s gym – maybe next time!). I highly recommend indulging in the superb variety of breakfast breads, cookies and pastries. The time passed all too quickly and it was very difficult to leave the beauty and peace of the camp! I will be returning soon!
