This iconic park, an ancient rain forest, extends over a series of steep ridges in the Virunga Volcanoes mountain range. Declared a UNESCO world heritage site due to its ecological uniqueness and natural beauty, roughly half of the world’s total gorilla population live in this park. Apart from gorillas, there are a wide variety of primates to see including the blue and red tailed monkeys.

Queen Elizabeth National Park is the second largest and most biodiverse park in Uganda. It is the country’s most popular safari destination after Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Located in western Uganda close to the Rwenzori Mountains, the park encompasses a huge array of different landscapes, including wetlands, swamps and crater lakes, tropical forests, woodland and open savannah, supporting a diverse range of wildlife, and with more than 600 species of birds, this park is East Africa’s best birding destination.
Famous for the tree-climbing lions found in the south of the park, visitors to this park will also enjoy spotting the Ugandan kob, sitatunga, giant forest hog and more. In addition to game drives on the open savannah, visitors can do boat cruises on the Kazinga Channel to see hippos and the Nile crocodiles and hike through rainforest to find chimpanzees.

A wonderful tapestry of natural landscapes. Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda’s oldest and largest park, is where the mighty Nile River bisects the flourishing savannah. The River is flanked by lush riverine woodlands, before bursting through a chasm in the Rift Valley escarpment to form the raging Murchison Falls. The great pods of hippos and immense rafts of Nile crocodile in-and-around the Nile is a spectacular sight, as well as an array of exceptional water birds.
Kibale Forest
One of the best places to view chimpanzees in their natural habitat, Kibale National Park is a dense tropical rainforest located in Uganda’s Western Region. Kibale has one of the highest diversities and concentrations of primates in Africa which include chimpanzees, red colobus monkeys and L’Hoest’s Monkeys. Additionally the park is home to some 350 species of birds, and other mammals, including bushbucks, buffaloes and forest elephants.
