The Experience
Guests arrive in the Masai Mara at either Kicheche Valley Camp or Kicheche Bush Camp. Spend two nights at the first camp, enjoying game drives with Kicheche camp’s world class safari guides exploring the conservancy. On the third day of your safari, your walk across the Masai Mara conservancies. It typically begins after lunch. The walk to the fly camp from your camp is about 13 kilometers. Arrive at the already set-up fly camp, settle in and relax in front of the large bonfire, enjoying the sunset with your sundowners. Enjoy a quick refreshing hot bucket shower before spending your evening dining under the stars by the bonfire, sharing stories of the bush.
The next day after a wake up call from your guide, freshen up and enjoy your morning tea or coffee with a light breakfast. Continue on your walk across the Masai Mara which will take approximately 13 kilometers to your next camp. Arrive in time for lunch and enjoy an afternoon siesta before your afternoon game drive. You have two nights at the second camp to enjoy all that the camp and conservancy has to offer.
After experiencing the 5-nights fly camping safari with Kicheche Camps, some points to consider:
- Guest safety is Ahnasa Destinations and Kicheche Camps number one priority. The walking safari is done in the company of an armed ranger who has undergone professional rifle training, a professional safari guide as well as the safari vehicle.
- It is not a must that you walk the complete route. The experience is flexible, if you tire or feel you want to stop walking, you can opt to hop in the safari vehicle to complete your journey.
- There is a bucket shower at the adventure fly camp as there are no permanent structures. The bucket shower is a 20 liter canvas bucket filled with hot water upon request. The bucket is connected to a shower head with an on-off toggle. Please note, the water is hot so if you’re not used to very hot water, just inform the guide how you like your water temperature. They will be happy to oblige.
- We recommend this experience during the dry months, making it easier to walk through the conservancies.
- Fly camping experience is recommended to be booked in advance as it is an exclusive experience for groups of up to 6 guests.
- Age limit for fly camping is from ages 16 years and up. However children between ages 12 – 16 may do fly camping upon the discretion of the guides.
